We took the Unit 11 Quiz. We then reviewed the federal, state, and local government structures, then proceeded to begin discussing the revenues of all levels of government.

We took our Unit 6-10 Exam in class. Then, we began to discuss Unit 11, Local Government.

Wednesday, 4/10

We took our Unit 10 Quiz to begin class. Then, we had a guest speaker for the remaining portion of class.

We began discussion on state governments including the specific process of how a bill a law in Kansas.

After the quiz, we discussed current events and the amendments to the Constitution.

Wednesday, 3/27

We discussed some of the procedures that the students observed while paging in Topeka. We then began Unit 9.

Monday, 3/25

We completed the unit on our court system. We discussed the Supreme Court, the Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Federal District courts. We discussed some of the court cases that have changed history.

Wednesday, 3/20

We began the unit on our court system. We discussed the process in which a criminal case proceeds from crime to prosecution and appeals. We will continue with the formation of the court system on Monday.

HOMEWORK AND LOOKING AHEAD:

Homework:  List (typed) the Supreme Court Justices, their current age, which President nominated including party, what year they joined the Supreme Court. Read Unit 8. Type bullet points of key details for each of the highlighted sections in each lesson, due Monday the 25th.

Looking Ahead: Unit 8. We will delay the quiz until Monday, April 1st, due to our trip to Topeka on Tuesday.

Monday, 3/18

We discussed current events including New Zealand shooting, flooding in Nebraska and Iowa, the veto of declining the President's Emergency Declaration, and the continuing unrest in Venezuela. We then finished discussing the different department's in the cabinet in Unit 7.

I went over each of the student's Unit 1-5 projects with them individually to give feedback. As a class, we began Unit 7.

We split the day today between discussion of current events and completing Unit 6.

We spent half of class time working on the skill of writing short answer/essay questions. We concluded class with discussing the process by which we elect the president. Included was a break down of the primary/caucus process.

After that week break with President's Day and the inclement weather day, we took the Unit 1-5 Exam today in class. Also due were the Unit 5 Quiz and the Unit 1-5 Project.

Today, we discussed the resolution and ideas of the Green New Deal as disclosed late last week. We then continued on with discussing Congressional bills and how they become law.

We spent a good deal of time today discussing the State of the Union address given last night by President Trump. We then transitioned to completing discussion of the rest of Unit 4.

Monday, 2/4

Today, we began Unit 4. We discussed both chambers of our Congress, comparing and contrasting the House and Senate in age requirements, terms, representation, and history. We discussed redistricting and the KS redistricting in 2012.

Homework:  Unit 4 Review Questions due Wednesday. If you haven't, read Chapter 4. On sheet emailed, find the US Senators and Congressmen and women from KS and MO by district. Due Wednesday

Monday, 1/28

Today, we had a great discussion over the current events occurring in Venezuela, the government shutdown, and New York's passage of an abortion bill.  We also began discussing Unit 3 with the events leading up to the revolution, Declaration of Independence, and Articles of Confederation.

Homework: If you didn't turn in your Unit 3 Review Questions (typed), please do so by Wed. Make sure you are ready for class discussion and current events.

Today, we finished Unit 2 discussing the Athenian Democracy and Roman Republic. We also examined the roots of our government in English history and government reforms as well as the impact of the enlightment.
